Healthy Habits for Self-Confidence: Finding your Values
Confidence is a developable skill that many times can be mistaken as something you either have, or don’t have. If your goal is to start increasing your self-confidence, one thing that may help is identifying what your values are.
Values can be defined as “enduring beliefs upon which a person acts.” (Psychology Today). These beliefs can be incredibly powerful and have major impacts on how we act, think, and live our lives. In short, understanding your values is monumental in understanding how you define yourself.
Unsure where to start on identifying your values? Check out this Values Clarification worksheet created by TherapistAid.com. This is a tool recommended by our therapists as a good starting point in determining what is most important to you. If you are feeling stuck, bring this worksheet with you to your next therapy appointment so that you and your therapist can go through it together.
In the meantime, here are some questions to get you thinking:
-
- What times in your life have you felt the most happy?
- What times in your life were you the most proud?
- What times in your life have you felt the most fulfilled and satisfied?
- Reflecting on your answers above, what made those moments important to you?
